On September 14, 2015, the JAMA study supporting the use of ramipril for symptoms of peripheral artery disease was retracted... because the lead author admitted to fabricating study results.
Continue to use ACEI in patients with peripheral artery disease... to treat hypertension, coronary artery disease, etc. But don't expect ramipril or other ACEIs to improve walking time, time to onset of leg pain, etc.
New research suggests that ACE inhibitors help reduce SYMPTOMS of peripheral artery disease (PAD).ACEIs are already used in these patients to reduce CV risk. Now evidence suggests ACEIs may also help intermittent claudication.
